![]() Orthopedic and Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Spine Surgeon Desert Institute for Spine Care Phoenix, Arizona Voluntary Associate Clinical Professor University of California San Diego School of Medicine Department of Orthopedics Dr Yeung is a board certified orthopedic and spine surgeon who has extensive experience in minimally invasive spinal diagnostic and surgical techniques. He subspecializes in Percutaneous endoscopic surgery of the lumbar spine, having developed the Yeung Endoscopic Spine System (YESS™), which includes multi-channel spine endoscopes and related instruments by the Richard Wolf Surgical Instrument Company. The YESS™ system and technique has new scopes and adjunctive power tools to allow for surgical decompression of the disc, spinal canal, and lateral recess endoscopically. In selected cases, a wide spectrum of painful degenerative conditions of the Lumbar spine is amenable for endoscopic decompression and stabilization. Dr Yeung is recognized internationally and nationally for his contributions to minimally invasive/endoscopic spine surgery, having received awards for best scientific presentation at the Western Orthopedic Association and the International Intradscal Therapy Society annual meetings. He is the co-editor of a book, the Practice of Minimally Invasive Spinal Technique, now in its second edition, and the author of numerous peer reviewed scientific articles, publications, and book chapters on endoscopic spine surgery and related topics. He is a reviewer for Spine and is a member of the editorial review board of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Spinal Technique. Dr Yeung has held academic appointments with the Phoenix Orthopedic Residency Program as consultant and clinical instructor, and , interested in bringing his expertise to academic programs, has trained academic spine faculty and fellows from the United States, North America, South America, Australia, Europe, and Asia. Dr Yeung has served as the President of the Maricopa County Medical Society, the Arizona Orthopedic Society, The Western Orthopedic Society, Arizona Chapter, and the board of the Arizona Medical Association. He has served on the Professional Liability Committee of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, is past chairman of the surgical care committee and current Chairman of the New Products Development committee for the North American Spine Society. He advanced endoscopic spine surgery during his tenure as president of the American Academy for Minimally Invasive Spinal Medicine and Surgery and the International Intradiscal Therapy Society. Dr Yeung will continue his educational activities as the director of Medical education for the International Intradiscal Therapy Society.
