On the evening of January 31st, 2013, at the Great Wall Restaurant, the Chinese United Association of Greater Phoenix* celebrated the Chinese Lunisolar New Year 4711 with a Festive Banquet. The Hon. Jan Brewer, Governor of Arizona, and many distinguished guests as well as leaders of the local Chinese-American community were in attendance. This was the first occasion in more than a decade that a community function was attended by the 22nd Chief Executive of the State of Arizona.
A special highlight of the evening was the presentation by the Association of a first-ever award for Outstanding Professional Achievement. The honoree was Anthony T. Yeung, MD, the pioneer for endoscopic, laser-assisted spine surgery. Dr. Yeung was not only internationally recognized for this technique, including in China, but had already been recognized here at home as well with Phoenix Magazine “Top Doctor” recognitions in several recent years and twice as a “Health Care Hero” by the Business Journal.
